Jesus Figueroa
He was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico on the 17 of April of
1878. Orphan from the 4 years, was left under the trusteeship of his uncle Don
Jose Lequerica, aguadillano musician who directed him in the musical discipline
from an early age. The first years of his adolescence he passed as training
the discipline of orchestra music, always like executants of clarinete,
his favorite .instrument.
In his youth he knew the Mislán composers, Chavier, Quintón, and Morel Campos,
whose tradition and style transmitted to future generations. He was developed as
magnificent orquestador reason why he orchestrated works of Tavárez, Mislán,
Quintón, Pericás, Pedreira and many others.
He cultivated zarzuela, the dance, the song of art, works of camera and sacred
music. In 1967 the Catholic University conferred a brevet rank to him by its
contribution to Puerto Rican music.
He was an active director of bands, directing among others the one of the
Insular Police. He founded the Symphony orchestra of WIPR. The Figueroa was the
great patriarch of the recognized family of Puerto Rican musicians. These have
crossed the world with their famous quintet and, in addition, Narciso and
Guillermo are outstanding in the composition of Danzas.
Don Jesus died the 11 of April of 1971.
