"La Vedette de América" inició su carrera a finales de la década del 60, como bailarina de los programas de Sylvia de Grasse en el Canal 2 de Telemundo. En 1969 se unió sentimentalmente al actor y productor Elín Ortiz. Con él, Iris comenzó a trascender en los medios de comunicación como bailarina y cantante.

En 1970, Elín e Iris dieron un salto al Canal 11 de la Telecadena Pérez Perry, donde iniciaron la transmisión de un espacio diario al mediodía. En el verano de ese año, Iris debutó en el mercado discográfico con su primera primera y única producción para el sello Hit Parade. La producción, que llevaba por título "Tu no eres hombre", le dio su primer éxito radial en el tema "Rey de amores".

Un año más tarde, Iris tomó las ondas radiales por asalto al lanzar el álbum que la consagraría en la industria: "Yo soy Iris Chacón". Producido por Ortiz para el sello Borinquen, el rítmico "Caramelo y chocolate" se convirtió en un gigantesco éxito, al cual le sucedieron los temas "Mi movimiento" y "Me gusta, me gusta".

Posteriormente, participó en el Festival de la Canción de Buenos Aires, donde interpretó el tema "Vivir por la aventura de vivir", de Fernando Magallanes.

En 1973, Iris fue contratada por Wapa Televisión con carácter de exclusividad. Su espacio sabatino, "El show de Iris Chacón", ocupó con regularidad los primeros lugares de las encuestas televisivas hasta entrada la década del 80.

Simultáneamente, su carrera discográfica, aunque no fue prolífera en producciones, le dio innumerables éxitos radiales como "Te vas y qué", "Yo te nombro, Libertad", "El manicero", "Tu boquita" y "El tren de seis".

No obstante, su carrera ganó la aprobación de la crítica especializada por sus espectáculos presentados en el Club Caribe del Hotel Caribe Hilton. Iniciando sus temporadas en la hospedería en 1972, Iris se convirtió en una de las artistas de mayor demanda en dicho escenario.

Su fama trascendió a Venezuela, donde la apodaron "La Bomba Puertorriqueña", así como a México, donde llevó su espectáculo al circuito de centros nocturnos de la Capital Federal.

En el cine, Iris se anotó créditos en la producción de "Qué bravas son las mujeres". Y en las telenovelas actuó en "Sabel" y "Tanairí", así como protagonizó junto a Charytín Goyco y Andrés García el melodrama "Escándalo".

En la televisión estadounidense se ha presentado en "The Morning Show", "David Letterman", "The Merv Griffin Show" entre otros. Llevó más de 25,000 personas al Radio City Music Hall en Nueva York.

Iris Chacon (b. March 7, 1950) is a Puerto Rican who was, at one time, the world's most famous Vedette.

Chacon's voice wasn't great, but her dancing ability became legendary all across Latin America and the United States. During her heyday in the 1970's and early 1980's , she toured all of Latin America, the USA, Europe and Japan. She also starred in many movies and soap operas, such as Yo Se Que Mentia. Her acting, however, wasn't anything to talk much about either. She also was able to amass quite a fortune, buy mansions and cars and live in a lot of luxury.

She was able to exploit her sensuality with her dances and skimpy bathing suits and the dresses she used during her shows; this, combined with her great talent as a dancer, were her formula for succees.

In 1983, a TV commercial she did for Amalie Coolants became one of the most famous TV commercial's in Puerto Rico's history. She also had a variety show, El Show De Iris Chacon, for more than 15 years on WAPA-TV Saturday nights; it was also broadcast by some Spanish language television stations elsewhere in the United States. The show allowed her to display her talents as a variety show host and interviewer as well as a dancer.

After her heyday, she moved to Miami, where she lived more modestly, and found a job acting in a children's series for PBS, a job which she keeps currently.

She has been married to musician Junno Faria for more than 25 years, and they have a daughter, Katiria Faria Chacon together. Her sisters, Lourdes Chacon and Liliana Chacon also were vedettes who became quite famous in Puerto Rico durong the 80's. Iris and Liliana are converted Christians.
