Alicia Sotomayor

She was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in 1959 and she was raised in Aguadilla. She started private painting lessons with her teacher Rosita Lopez in Aguadilla a the age of 9. She studied primary and secondary in Colegio San Antonio, Isabela. In 1977 Alicia Sotomayor was accepted at the School of Art of the Instituto de Cultura in Old San Juan where some of her teachers were Myrna Baez and Noemi Ruiz, well known artist of Puerto Rico.

In 1981 Alicia received a BA in Plastic Arts - Painting Concentration. In 1986, Alicia resided 2 years in San Francisco, California and 8 years in Florida. Alicia painted oils until 1992 when she decided to experiment with watercolors. Then little by little Alicia was learning technique without any formal watercolors courses. Since then Alicia is been recognized as a premiere Watercolor Artist.


In 1996 Alicia returned to Puerto Rico and in 1997 started her professional career with her first solo exhibit in Aguadilla. She offered "Watercolor Courses" as volunteer at the Base Ramey in Aguadilla where she had her first Solo Studio.

In 1999 her Painting "Cocos II" was chosen for the Cover of the Bienvenidos Magazine, Tourism Magazine of Puerto Rico. Since then her work is recognized by warm colors, vivids, and especially for the themes of Coconuts and Fisherman Boats (Yolas).
Alicia's work is recognized as realistic and contemporary. She is also a photographer and supports Tourism in every way she can. Currently representing the work of Eddie Soto. Alicia Sotomayor is totally dedicated to the Arts and to help other fellow Artist. Alicia, divorced Mother since 1999 is raising her two children Crystal and John . Alicia Sotomayor is residing in Aguadilla close to Base Ramey, where you can visit her studio by appointment.

Many of her paintings are in International Private Collections in Inglaterra, South Africa, The United States and Puerto Rico. Currently 2 of her Paintings were chosen for an Episode of the new TV Show Merge (Deco Show) in Life Time Channel (Jan 2nd, 2004 at 11:00PM).
