Agustin Stahl

 

He was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, on the 21 of January of 1842. A Doctor and  an investigator. He did the primary studies in his native town and the superior ones in Germany. He studied Medicine in the universities of Wartburg and  Prague, as where he  graduated in 1864. To his return to the Island he exerted his profession and he made, in addition, etnológicos, botanical, zoological and historical studies. By his investigations he received prizes of the Spanish Anthropological Society; Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona and Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia.
Some of his works are: "Notes on the Puerto Rican flora", "Report on the disease of the sugar cane", "Puerto Rican Flora", "the Puerto rican Indians", "the fecundity of the woman in Puerto Rico", "demographic Study", "Foundation of Aguadilla" and "Foundation of Bayamón".
In his political life, he militated in Puerto Rican the Autonomist Party. Due to his political ideas he lost the chair of Natural Sciences in the Civil Institute of the Second Education. he was exiled the 4 of May of 1898. It died in Bayamón, the 12 of 1917 July.
