Manuel Mendez Ballester

This great Puerto Rican writer was born in Aguadilla in 1909. During his childhood he lived in the towns on Aguadilla and San Sebastián. When graduating as eighth degree he went to study the school superior to New York. To his return to Puerto Rico he worked like clerk. Colossus of Aguadilla worked by several years in the Sugar Power station. There it had opportunity to intimately know the life and customs the workers of the cane plantations. What helped to be able to write, soon, its plays.
In 1930 one married and also, it began to study chronicles on the conquest and colonization of Puerto Rico. The material would use it to esccribir his first work, the historical novel, roaming Island

From young person one was interested in the theater and it belonged to fan organizations. In 1935 it crossed the island with a rolling theater to educate the workers of the cane.

The Outcry of the furrows, was his first play. It was released in the Athenian de Puertorriqueño after obtaining the first prize in one of his aids. Dead time was released in the University of Puerto Rico

Don Manuel died in San Juan, Pueerto Rico in 2002
