He was born in San Juan on the 26th of March of 1854. His father was musical of distinction and encouraged the musical aspirations of his son.

Between the ages of 14 and 23 years he dedicated  his time to the creation of danceable music and regional pieces. His first triumph in the field of serious music was a First prize during the contest literary-musical comedy of the Puerto Rican Atenero in 1877, with his overture for orchestra "the Friendship" . Of there in ahead, Owner consecutively gained all the contests of the Athenian until he happened to comprise of the jury.

The most important contribution of Braulio Owner to our culture is the collections of scholastic songs that wrote specifically for the schools of the country, with letter of Virgilio Dávila and Manuel Fernandez Rushes. In these collections melodía appeared the inmortal for the first time "tierruca" .

The dances of Owner Columbus, although participate in the most typical style of Fields, have own character. "Delia and Bethlehem", "Mother country", and "the Creole" are known. In "jíbara chorreao cheers " combines the dance with the six, introducing the newness to use the compass of six by eight instead of traditional the two by four.

In addition to composer and intrumentista, it was an excellent musicólogo, leaving us an interesting study on of the Puerto Rican Dance which is one of the most reliable sources for the study of its origins.
